Authorities have identified the woman found dead in her Pike Creek apartment Tuesday afternoon as 23-year-old Joyner Ondimu.
New Castle County police spokesman Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said a relative found Ondimu dead in the bedroom of her English Village residence, located in the unit block of Grant Hall off Henderson Hill Road.
The death has been ruled a homicide by the state Medical Examiner’s Office. Cause of death was determined to be head trauma.
Navarro said detectives have spent the past 18 hours interviewing witnesses and acquaintances and collecting evidence inside the residence.
There was no apparent sign of a break-in, Navarro added.

Family cries for justice over student killed in US
Story by NATION Reporter and Correspondent
Publication Date: 2/15/2005
A Kenyan student has been found murdered in her house in the US and her family is questioning the explanation given for her death.
Ms Ondimu
The 23-year-old nursing student, Ms Joyner Ondimu, was hit with a blunt object by an unknown assailant, according to her father, Mr Samuel Ondimu.
She was found dead last Tuesday in her home at the English village apartment complex, Pike Creek, Delaware, a small state near Washington DC.
She had injuries in the head and a medical examiner said she died of trauma.
She hailed from Kiogoro, Nyaribari, Kisii District.
Mr Ondimu told Nation in Nairobi yesterday that he had received "unsatisfactory" reports about the events surrounding his daughter's death.
Mr Ondimu said: "Nobody is talking about the circumstances in which my daughter died. They are only telling me of the arrangements to bring the body home."
His daughter lived with two other women students, he said.
Ms Ondimu's uncle, Mr Evans Ombwori, said he spoke with her two hours before she was found dead.
He said there was sudden background noise before she ended the conversation, saying she would call again to speak to her sister.
The Kenyan community in Delaware met on Sunday to raise funds to transport the body home.
New Castle Country police had not by Sunday arrested any one over the crime as Kenyans wrote to them calling for thorough investigations.

Kenyan found murdered in her US apartment
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Standard Correspondent
The bruised body of a Kenyan woman, Joyner Ondimu was recovered from an apartment in the US.
The body was found in the bedroom of her apartment in Pike Creek, English village, Delaware State. She had suffered "blunt force trauma", according to media reports appearing in The News Journal, a local newspaper in Delaware State. Friends described the 23-year-old nursing student as very caring and humble. Police suspect homicide, police spokesman Cpl Trinidad Navarro said.
The police officer added that there were no signs of forced entry into her apartment room and police suspected that it could be the work of someone she shared the apartment with or one with copies of her keys.
Her death shocked the Kenyan community in the area, which numbers about 1,000.
"She was a very cheerful woman," her brother-in-law said. "She was hard-working and was
a people’s person."
James Njoroge, the elder of the Angaza-Sharon Church in Wilmington, said the deceased was popular in the community.
Those close to her said she never mentioned that she was having any problems or expressed any concerns about her safety. She lived with three people, but police have not identified any suspect or possible motives. She immigrated to the US in 2001.
