Stereotypes Or Honest Observations? Listing #41251 by Eazy on 30-Jul-2010 . Viewed 280 times . Replied to 11 times . Printed 2 times |
I was watching a bunch of Chinese boys playing basketball and it was hard to deny that they all had a strange way of playing. Their movements were erratic and unco-ordinated while their shooting success rate was consistently way above their playing ability. They were either non-conversant with the rules or they just didn`t give a fcuk about them, they just played on. They hardly ever spoke to each other, just the occasional laughter or what looked like light-hearted good banter. Hardly any comments, positive or negative were being made.
This observation made me later search out a group of Africans playing for an informal, amateur, comparative observation. The African`s are comparatively better players, more co-ordinated in their body movements, more confident and purposeful in movement. The shooting success rate is however, interestingly enough consistently lower than the show-cased skill levels. Whether the African players know the rules or not, the mouths are constantly running. There`s taunting and calls are constantly made, whether justified or not. Disagreements are alarmingly frequent and occasionally you get the feeling that a fight is not only imminent but inevitable. Fortunately, they are well aware that this is Germany and a fight can be quite costly to the involved parties.
I could only get this one group of Chinese, but I observed 3 different groups of Africans. There seem to be distinct differences between different groups of Africans too.
Anyway, I set out to play basketball but ended up doing something entirely different and got me thinking. There are actually very very many everyday small and big, subtle and obvious differences between different groups of people but somehow it is politically incorrect to point most of them out. |

›› Ashum4 30-Jul-2010, reply_353714 The chinese were looking more at the end rather than the means while the Africans were more concerned with the means than the goal which begs the question, do you think the means justify the end? |
›› Eazy 30-Jul-2010, reply_353717 Miamaya, I`ve read your online dating article you could follow it up with an article on how to snap up that dream man/woman online. I would love the challenge of writing such an article, and the honour of writing it for emmalifetips.
Ashum, imo, morals/ethics are subjective. I prefer to deal with each matter on it`s own and prefer to keep to distinct sets of ideals, what I think, and what I do. |

›› Ashum4 30-Jul-2010, reply_353723 @Eazy does one do something because they concieved it in their mind or do they do something because they have experienced it before ie sense perception? |
 ›› Eazy 30-Jul-2010, reply_353725 fiti @supu, habari ya kupotea?
Ashum hiyo swali yako ngumu. On face value, I would say both play a role. |
›› Ashum4 30-Jul-2010, reply_353729 Hey @Eazy does what you know exist in your mind before certain conditions exist to bring it out or do you have an empty slate first (John Locke's Tabula rasa) before sense perception prints on it |
